Today computer technologies are very essential and more and more students are involved in telecommunication projects. Some children have taken part in one of such projects "Your oats, sir". This project is devoted to food traditions in Britain. While learning traditions we have enriched our vocabulary.

Study the presentation "Food vocabulary" and think of two more proverbs, 4 more everyday word combinations and  10 food names that are typical for British food. 

 

 

 How is March 8th celebrated?

March 8th (know)  also as the International Women's Day . This holiday (emerge) as a political celebration ( symbolize) the fight of women from all over the world for their rights, full equality with men, democracy and peace. As the time passed, the political motives of the holiday moved to the background and March 8th simply became a (women) holiday in Russia and other republics of the former USSR.

 

March 8th (be) an official public holiday. This beautiful spring holiday (celebrate) most often in the family circle with a festive meal and champagne. Another popular way to celebrate March 8th is (visit)  friends. Men and women (give) flowers, postcards with poetry, chocolate, and other pleasant gifts to their mothers, wives, grandmothers, sisters and daughters. Some Russian men like to undertake all household duties on this day—(start) with washing dishes and ending with cooking dinner and looking after children, so that women can (enjoy) a full day of rest.

Since the International Women's Day (be) a non-working day in Russia, office workers celebrate it just the day before the holiday. In companies and organizations, all women receive flowers and small memorable gifts from their male co-workers and, sometimes, from employers (they). During the lunch break, it is common ( have) a small office party with cake and a glass of champagne.

Popular( Russia) entertainers organize concerts and performances to create the festive mood on March 8th. The (good) singers and most talented actors perform on stage with songs and poems about love and beautiful women. However, very few Russians celebrate the holiday by (go) to concerts, theaters or movies. The (tradition) way to celebrate is at home among friends and family.

Although March 8th is a big holiday in Russia, some people choose not to celebrate it. This is especially common for (old) people who may not like extra hassle and (spend) money for presents. In fact, 14% of Russians ( not/ plan) to celebrate International Women’s Day in 2010 – the record number in the recent years.

II.            Translate the sentences into English.

1.    Мне не разрешили пойти на дискотеку.

2.    «Позволь нам остаться дома!», - попросили дети у мамы.  

3.    Мы не ожидали, что пойдет дождь.

4.    Все люди хотят, чтобы Европейские правительства прекратили ядерные испытания.

5.    Ответ ученика рассмешил одноклассников.

6.    Моей маме хотелось бы, чтобы я посетил Англию.

7.    Не заставляй меня наказывать тебя. Мне это неприятно.

8.    Вчера было холодно и нам позволили остаться дома.

9.    Учитель заставил ученика переделать домашнюю работу.

10. Меня обычно не заставляют делать уроки, я делаю их сам.
